the bear that wasn't

summary:
we reviewed the projects that are a part of the 70X case study, and then watched a video that tells the story of a bear that everybody thought was a lazy man who needed a shave (google: the bear that wasn't video). we discussed how other people can shape the way we see ourselves by putting labels on us. we made connections to ourselves and other things we've seen. then we read an excerpt from 'farewell to manzanar' and compared the protaagonist, jeanne, to the bear.

homework:
answer the following questions about the excerpt from 'farewell to manzanar'.
  1. What do the experiences of Jeanne and the bear have in common? How are they different?
  2. Identify a time when you have been labeled by others. How did it feel? How did you respond?
  3. Identify a time when you labeled someone else. Why did you do it?
  4. Why do you think we are quick to place labels on each other?
note: i'm unable to upload today's files. there are extra copies at school.
