letter writing

summary: 

we reviewed the first day, and then students read a letter & survey that i wrote to students and their families (below). we discussed the things in it, with student questions focusing on the parts about 'high-stakes testing' and my epic bike trip. students started writing a letter to me, and i spoke with individual students to learn more about the things they mentioned in their surveys. 

students working on letters might benefit from thinking and writing about these questions: 

  • who are you? 
  • what are your hopes (looking forward to?) & fears? 
  • strengths & challenges?

homework: 

share my letter with parents, and return a completed parent survey, due thursday

bring composition notebook, two-pocket folder due thursday

bring signed 7th grade organizational letter due thursday (below)
