pre-encounter geography quiz

we began class with a quiz about the geography of europe and north america before the encounter between indigenous people and europeans. it was very clear that students had put a lot of time and energy into studying for the quiz, and that they had learned a lot since yesterday's class. unfortunately, the quiz was compromised when procedures for peer - scoring of the quiz fell apart. we discussed this, and the need for a re-quiz on friday. we established friday lunch as a time for students to review & study in my room. we then transitioned to learning about the indigenous civilizations of north america, and an activity in which students worked together with some books to complete the g.r.a.p.e.s. notecatcher (below). this work was left unfinished, and we agreed that we would return to it on friday
